Ahoy! For our recent style mission, Afiya and I decided to turn to you, our fabulous viewers for inspiration. We were looking to find what fashion-wise, really sparks a personal fashion trend. We asked that you send us a style sheet (a tear sheet) of images that reflect your favourite look. We were delighted with the submissions and as the style sheets came pouring in we knew it was going to be tough to pick a winner. Lindsay, our grand prize winner, had compiled a style sheet that showcased a “nautical with edge” trend. Afiya and I both agreed that this look would work great on really anyone and is a classic. Lindsay's submission was perfect for a fresh makeover and looked totally 2010. Recently, Lindsay arrived at our Style Agents headquarters and we headed out on our mission, finding the elements of this look at Vaughan Mills! We knew we wanted plenty of crisp blue and whites, accents of red, elements of gold and some whimsical detailing that had an haute-sailor appeal. We hit trend hotspots Miss Sixty, Lacoste Outlet, Michael Kors Outlet... the list goes on! Also, we had a fabulous make-up artist, Amelia James from Pari Beauty making us camera ready! Within one afternoon of shopping, laughs and trading insider styling secrets, Afiya, myself and Lindsay, our honorary style agent had managed to take the “hip sailor” trend from tear sheet to reality. I hope this episode inspires you to create your own style or tear sheets. They are a great way to help put together a look, practice creating new trends and just to have fun. When I put together my own style sheets I use a site called polyvore.com, check it out, I think you’ll be hooked. Best part is you can print your style sheets up or load them to your phone and bring them shopping with you to Vaughan Mills! |
It was so much fun to have Lindsay join Janette & me on this shopping mission! In addition to being totally sweet, she was the perfect model for the nautical theme that she highlighted in her entry. The pillars of classic nautical style include stripes, Americana red, white & blue, and simple silhouettes like wide leg trousers and blazers. So, of course, the Lacoste Outlet was a no-brainer for our first shopping destination as it epitomizes preppy nautical style. While traditionally a fitted blazer would work nicely, we went pretty baggy to keep things intentionally laid back and from being too perfectly preppy. But because Lindsay is petite, we didn’t want to overwhelm her frame so we made sure all of the other elements of the outfit fit like a glove. Also, in the interest of keeping the look from being too costumey, we made a stop at Miss Sixty in hopes of finding something with a little edge. I love the heels that Lindsay found, as they are definitely consistent with a nautical theme, though the chunky cork heel adds a bit of the unexpected. When sporting such a defined look, I think that it’s important to mix things up and make it your own. Again a huge thank you to everyone who submitted entries, they were awesome – we’re so lucky to have such a creative group of viewers! It was tough to choose just one, I’m thinking that we’re going to have to do this again. In the meantime, we love to hear from you so keep your questions, comments and inspiration coming! |
